Notepads

As you all know, I'm totally addicted to planners, notebooks, and post-its.
My latest obsession however has been notepads. I received a few for Christmas in my stocking and while cleaning out a drawer in my room I found a couple more. Ever since then I'm constantly writing something down on them whether it is a list of things I need at Wal-Mart, a to-do list, or even an important reminder.

One of the notepads I got for Christmas

This is my weekly to-do notepad.

I added this to my collection earlier this week:

It has three sticky notes, a notepad, a weekly to-do list, and a folder.

My Study Buddy

Before I started college my aunt gave me something that every college student needs:
a back-rest pillow

This my friends is my study buddy! I absolutely LOVE it.

When I study or do homework in my room, I don't really like to sit at my desk. For some reason I like to study on my bed. I guess it's because my bed is a little more comfortable than sitting at my desk.

My comfy study area.

Usually when you sit on your bed your back begins to ache and your neck begins to burn after a while, because unlike a chair your bed doesn't have a back-rest. Therefore, your back isn't being supported, and you are hunched over studying. With my amazing pillow though, there is no more pain! It makes sitting on the bed sooo much better. I honestly don't know what I'd do without it. So thanks Aunt Bev. :)

Do you have a special study buddy?

Expanding My Vocabulary

Last night while studying for a quiz I came across a word I didn't know the definition of. In this situation I usually take the word into context and try to figure it out....(mostly because I'm too lazy to get out a dictionary).... but with this particular word I couldn't be lazy. I actually had to look up the definition.
After learning what the word meant, I had an idea... why don't I get out one of my many unused notebooks (I'm kinda a notebook freak) and write down the definition?

Since I've started college I've noticed that my vocabulary isn't what it probably should be. So if I actually took the time to look up words and write them down every once in a while maybe my vocabulary will expand.
I've heard of other people doing this. Do any of you write down definitions to words they look up in dictionary's? If not do you think this would be a good way to expand your vocabulary?

Online Courses

Online classes aren’t as easy as some people think they are. In fact, most students need to go through an adjustment period as they learn the pattern of online communication. So here are a few tips to help you get more comfortable:

  • Take time to review any help files your instructor has provided.
  • Spend some time navigating around the class. Figure out what all the tools you will be using and what all the buttons do.
  • Manage your time. You’ll find that your time management skills will be critical in an online class. Why? Because it’s very easy to spend either far too little time on the class. Set designated blocks of time to work on the class daily. This will help you stay up with the assignments and with the interaction required in most online classes.
  • Set priorities and pay very close attention to deadlines. Make sure your check your syllabus at the beginning of every week so you know about any assignments, readings, or tests you have. For more information on keeping a study plan check out this post.
  • Print out pages given to you by your instructor. This way when you’re not online or are in a hurry to look something up you can have the pages in your hands.
  • Ask right away for help if something isn’t going right, whether it’s a course or technical issue. It is very important that you communicate with your instructor.
  • Read what you are going to send before you click the send button. In online communication it is important to say things carefully, since you cannot use body language as you do with verbal communication.
  • Remember there’s a person on the other side. Ask for feedback if you’re not sure how your ideas and comments will be taken.
  • Enjoy your time in this new learning environment!

Inspirational

Last year my roommate put quotes and sayings all over our door. At first I didn't pay much attention to them, but one day when I was having what I thought was the worst day ever I read one of them. I don’t remember exactly what it said, but I do remember that after I read it my whole attitude changed. I realized that if I went around with a negative attitude for the rest of the day that my day wouldn’t get any better. Therefore I decided to have a positive attitude and honestly my day turned out to be okay!
For some reason we didn’t put any of them back on our door this year. So today while browsing Pinterest I decided to find a few new ones.
Here are the ones I’m going to put on our door:

the grass is greener

True.

there's something good in every day..

Feel free to leave a comment with your favorite quote or saying :)

Debt

Most college students graduate with two Ds: a diploma and debt. Fortunately, that second D doesn't have to end with disaster if you do two things:
  1. Make a budget and stick to it
  2. Stretch every dollar
How To Make A Budget
Step 1: Income- figure out how much money you have

  •  Estimate your income by semester and month.
  • Your income source may include: scholarships, grants, family contributions, student loans, job salary, and/or savings
  • Calculate how much money you will have each semester. Then divide the total by the number of months in that semester. This total will tell you the average amount of money you have each month.
Step 2: Expenses- figure out how much money you spend
  • Add up all the money you spend during a semester and month
  • Your expenses may include: tuition, books, school supplies, housing, phone, food, entertainment, and/or health
  • It’s a good idea to record all your expenses for a month to get an idea of you spending habits.
  • To help record all your expenses it is also a good idea to keep all your receipts
Step 3: Balance- Subtract your expenses from your income
  • Subtract the total from step 2 from the total from step 1.
  • If you come out with a positive number that is a good sign.
  • But if you come out with zero or a negative number you will definitely need to make a few
  Step 4: Adjust-Cut your expenses
  • To cut your expenses consider these ideas:
    • Go to free activities on campus
    • Collect coupons and use them
    • Use free internet on campus
    • Walk as much as possible
    • Cut back on things like junk food, CDs, and entertainment

Stretch Every Dollar
For example:
  •  Leave your debit or credit card in your room and only use them on planned occasions.
  • Have your paycheck automatically deposited to your bank account.
  • Don’t withdraw more than your budget amount
  • Avoid convenience food store
  • Make gifts instead of buying them
  • Use student discounts

Post-it

This semester I have become totally addicted to Post-it!! I love everything they make including:

683-5CB
Flags

686-PLOY3IN PKG RGB
Tabs

Page Makers

Notes

I like to use page markers and notes in my planner. If I have something important one day I will use a page marker to mark the day. I use the notes to tell myself I will most likely have a test or quiz during a certain week.

If you like using Post-it like I do, go to Post-it.com and get coupons on your favorite Post-it products!
